Wrist Pain
CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME – Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by pressure on the median nerve. The carpal tunnel is a narrow passage surrounded by bones and ligaments on the palmar side of the hand. When the median nerve is compressed, symptoms can include numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand. This can be due to compression on the nerve due to anatomical factors, inflammatory arthritis, obesity, chronic illness like diabetes and hypothyroidism.
SPRAINED WRIST – Wrist sprains are caused most often by a fall on an outstretched hand. This might happen during everyday activities, but frequently occurs during sports and outdoor activities. This usually involves stretching, inflammation or injury to ligaments around the wrist joint.
WRIST ARTHRITIS – Wrist is made up of multiple small joints. Inflammation in these areas can be a sign of arthritis. It results in cartilage damage leading to bone surfaces rubbing against each other. It can be age related wear and tear causing damage resulting in osteoarthritis. It can be due underlying chronic inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis. Symptoms can be pain, swelling, stiffness, limited range of motion, cracking, clicking or grinding sounds on movement.
TENDINITIS WRIST – Wrist tendinitis is irritation and inflammation of the tendons at the wrist joint. It can be caused by overuse and repetitive movements like twisting, texting, playing video games or writing. Symptoms can be swelling, pain during specific movement, restricted range of motion.
